We empower kids in Rwanda to design their own future by creating small libraries, providing books, school materials, and promoting education through workshops on the ground.
WHO ARE WE?
Lukas Hubik
Co-founder / Czech Republic
Hi all! I’m Luky 🌍✨ Raised in a small town in the Czech Republic, I dove into life headfirst, swimming competitively for 8 years before leaving my comfy home at 18 to chase my dreams abroad.
Now, having lived in four countries, I’ve embraced diverse cultures and perspectives, trying to live fully and withoutregrets. I strive to make a positive impact, balancing a life filled with travel, adrenaline, and creativity. Whether I’m exploring business ventures, getting lost in music, or capturing moments through my lens, I’m a calm, open-minded soul who cherishes the little things while chasing the big dreams. Excited to share my journey and connect with you all! 🌟🎶📸🚀
Gabriel Scherer
Co-founder / Italy
Hey everyone! I’m Gabby 🌍✨ Business student, languagelover (speaking five!), and a globe-trotter who’s lived in six countries. Curious, understanding, and (mostly) calm, I love diving into sports techniques, exploring new musical genres, and engaging in holistic debates.
I try to bring a warm and positive energy to the things I do and the people I meet. When I'm not perfecting my forehand or discovering enchanting melodies, you'll find me behind the camera, capturing life's moments through photography and videography. I’m here to share my journey and excited to get to know you! 🚀📚🎾📸
WHY US?
Shared Interests, Trust & Honesty, Work-Life Synergy, Diversity of Skills
How did we meet?
Crossed paths in a cafe in Shanghai during our university exchange in September 2023. It was an instant connection, click, personality match. Five months fast forward, we bonded deeply through travels, shared interests, meditation retreats, and similar views on life. In February 2024, destiny took us both to do our internships in Germany. During a catch-up meet-up in Cologne in February 2024, while talking about our summer's usual travel plans we had our lightbulb moment:
Why not mix our wanderlust with a purpose? And that is how our African project idea was born.
PROJECT RWANDA
Who?
We (Lukas & Gabriel) want to connect our wanderlust with a purpose.
What?
In Rwanda, many children lack access to basic educational resources. Determined to make a difference, we began our journey in February 2024 with five months of intensive preparation, including a one-week preliminary visit in May. Finally, we spent five weeks in July and August 2024 equipping two small libraries with carefully selected books and materials to empower the local youth.
These libraries have been equipped with books, games, and furniture, creating spaces where children can learn, study, play, and find inspiration to chase their dreams, just as we have pursued ours. We aim to inspire the children to study and learn, empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and build a better future for themselves and their communities.
Why Africa & education?
Because we believe that EDUCATION is one of the BIGGEST enablers to lead societies to prosperity. Because we can’t get enough of the smiling faces that meet our eyes when experiencing the smallest joy. Because we are fascinated by Africa’s landscapes and people and because we fully recognize the urgent need for educational support.
Where?
Location 1: Nyabihu School for Deaf 📍Musanze District
Located on the edge of the Musanze District in northern Rwanda, this school serves 63 dedicated deaf students. Built 11 years ago, the school required students to walk 50 minutes to the nearest library for more books, as their single bookshelf was often insufficient. Thanks to your generous support, we’ve invested €2085 to create a vibrant library stocked with high-quality, carefully selected books, a bookshelf, and contributions of notebooks, pens, pencils, games, and toys from our amazing donors. But that’s not all! The school has opened its doors every weekend to the entire Nyabihu community, inviting children to read, learn, and play in this new space. To ensure the library’s successful operation and the orderly maintenance of the books, EduDrive provides monthly financial compensations as agreed with the school, to compensate the dedicated staff, teachers, and volunteers. This space is a haven for learning, playing, and inspiring these children to dream big and achieve their goals.
Location 2: Community Youth Centre 📍Karongi District In the remote Karongi District, near the beautiful Lake Kivu, there's a community in Rubengera that urgently needed its first public library. With the support of Agati Library, we’ve transformed an empty room into a vibrant space where kids and adolescents can explore topics from personal growth and business to captivating stories and novels in English, French, and Kinyarwanda. Talented artists have decorated the walls with unique artworks, creating a welcoming atmosphere that feels like home. Visitors will have access to over 600 carefully selected books and games, offering endless opportunities for learning and fun. We hired a full-time librarian with over six years of experience in education to ensure the library remains operational, safe, and well-maintained for the community in the years to come.
When? project realisation
From the day we began working to bring our initial idea to life to the moment we fly to Rwanda on the 16th of July, it has been a total of five months of preparation. To ensure the best possible realization of our project, we visited Rwanda from May 20-26, 2024, for a preliminary visit. Our goals were to network, visit potential library locations, collect promotional materials, connect with locals, and understand the reality on the ground to ensure our project provides the most effective help. This preliminary visit was a key decision and the best choice we could have made. Project Realization: between July 16th and August 18th, 2024, our efforts were focused in Rwanda, making our ambitious vision a reality.
How?
We work in close collaboration with our local partner, Agati Library and other representatives for each of the locations we have selected. Thanks to this partnership and network that we have created in the past months and during our preliminary visit, we have constant support from local professionals who assist us with various aspects such as finding the right location, handling legal matters, managing communication and operations, and providing valuable experience. Do you relate to this mission? Do you believe in the power of education? Or do you simply want to do some good? Then we invite you to follow, share and spread the message of EduDrive. Agati Library is a community Library located in Musanze District in Rwanda, co-founded by 6 young people who grew up together. The co-founders lived and breathed the opportunities and the challenges of growing up in Musanze. They have been able to go to school and to further their studies, and they share the idea that it's never too early to start giving back to the community. Agati Library was made possible by childhood friendships and a shared zeal for bringing about positive change in the community by providing a learning sanctuary to children and young people that extends beyond the formal classroom setting. Agati Library opened its doors in April 2018 and has 2000+ average monthly visits. Their mission is to give Rwandan children access to books to widen their aspirations so they can break the cycle of poverty.
Your donation will directly sustain our two newly built libraries in Rwanda. We need 3,000€ annually to cover the salaries and costs of our dedicated librarians, volunteers and local partner Agati Library, who ensure the smooth operation, safety, and organization of the libraries and their equipment. Your support will also cover additional expenses such as electricity, cleaning, and bathroom access, ensuring a welcoming and functional environment for all visitors. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to our goal. Together, we can fuel progress and create a lasting impact.
